UTAH ENERGY HUB

Solar made simple.

About Empower SLC Solar

EmpowerSLC Solar is a community-led effort to coordinate interested homeowners across Salt Lake County to facilitate a group-purchase of residential solar PV systems. EmpowerSLC Solar helps participants go solar at a lower cost, makes going solar simple, generates clean electricity, and reduces carbon emissions.

EmpowerSLC Solar is a partnership between Project Manager Utah Clean Energy, Salt Lake community College, and a volunteer Steering Committee of community members.

Based on the success of our prior programs, we have set a goal of 150 installed PV systems through EmpowerSLC Solar. In addition to direct solar installations, EmpowerSLC Solar also aims to provide educational opportunities for Energy Management students at SLCC. This program is open to all Salt Lake County and Salt Lake City homeowners, but focused outreach will target EmpowerSLC zip codes 84104 and 84116.

EmpowerSLC Solar is Bringing You:

  • A substantial discount on solar: Up to 20% off for a typical installation, made possible through the facilitation of a supplier discount.
  • Simplified and streamlined solar installation process: We’ve done the heavy lifting, so you don’t have to. You’ll have access to a simplified solar process, and a local clean energy advocacy group is on hand to provide you with expert information about solar.
  • The community steering committee pre-screened and selected a trusted local installer through a competitive bidding process.

How Does it Work?

Our community steering committee has selected an installer through a rigorous vetting process to select an installer offering competitice prices and quality service.

After you complete our Solar Eligibility Survey, EmpowerSLC Solar will send your contact information to the selected installer, Auric Energy, who will then reach out to schedule a site visit. During the site visit, the installer will ensure you are a good candidate for solar by checking your roof, electricity usage, and home energy efficiency. You will then receive a quote a solar installation for your home. If you wish to proceed, your next step is to sign a contract with the installer authorizing the installation.

Solar Workforce Education

EmpowerSLC Solar is proud to be partnering with Salt Lake Community College’s Energy Institute, which develops students into solar professionals. Training includes site analysis, design, sales, and installation, and prepares students with the necessary skills to work in the solar industry.

Students participating in SLCC’s Energy Institute will have the opportunity to work with the EmpowerSLC Solar installer to learn more about the solar installation process, and will get practice creating designs for real-world case studies.

Learn More

EmpowerSLC Solar will be having workshops throughout the fall to give participants a chance to learn more about how solar works, meet the installer, and get their questions answered.

DISCLAIMER: Eligible homeowners who desire to participate in the Summit Community Power Works (SCPW) Solar Program will work directly with the selected installer to get a bid based on the size, location and energy use of their home. Homeowners who decide to install solar will contract directly with the installer – SCPW and Utah Clean Energy (UCE) will not be a party to the contract – and the panels will be installed on a first-come, first-served basis. Participating homeowners are solely responsible for negotiating and agreeing upon the terms of the contracts and related payment and financing arrangements. SCPW and UCE are not in a position to make, and do not make, any representations or guarantees about the installer or their work. Participating homeowners need to do their own due diligence and be satisfied that the installer can and will provide the homeowner with what the homeowner needs and expects. As a condition of participation in the SCPW Solar Program, and acknowledging SCPW and UCE’s role as facilitators of the discount Program, all participating homeowners agree to release SCPW and UCE from, and agree that SCPW and UCE will not have any responsibility or liability for: (i) the work performed by an Installer, (ii) any payment or financing related to such work, and (iii) any claim that may arise in connection with any of the contracts between a homeowner and the installer.
